New UW Aquatic Center

The construction of the new UW Aquatic Center marks a significant milestone in the University of Wyomings development as an institution of athletic and academic excellence. Within this milestone, the cost of the pool inside the John Corbett Building from public memory is and has been occurring for years. The construction of this new space is merely an end mark to the ability to create new memories at Corbett. UW head swimming and diving coach Dave Denniston noted, "This pool didn't just happen. It has been discussed by administrators, previous coaches, students, athletes, state legislators and senators for over two decades." (University of Wyoming)
The new location of the facility is somewhat obscured from UW’s campus core, which represents more than a new development in the Laramie community. It represents the physical shift of what people will associate with UW swimming and diving. Located directly across from War Memorial Stadium, which is a central hub of Laramie and the University’s pride of success. This strategic placement creates a positioning of easier access and new avenues of opportunity to create memories, while simultaneously distancing the University of Wyoming's athletic identity from Corbett's original vision and the physical space that represents where that legacy began.
