Corbett Pool

When the construction of Corbett pool was finalized in the late 1970’s, the university’s swimming and diving teams were elated to finally have a facility capable of hosting swimming duals and meets suitable for D1 performances. For years, UW had been repeatedly passed over as a host site due to the lack of a competition worthy pool.

This elation was quickly replaced with disappointment as the pool faced persistent issues and criticism from the moment it was completed. Compared to facilities at other universities, Corbett pool fell short. The John Corbett building was originally constructed with the embodiment of two foundational concepts in mind: physical activity and education. However, due to funding shortages, the building which should have been a lasting part of John Corbetts legacy at UW, never received the priority that it deserved. Temporary accommodations were made over the years to keep the pool somewhat functional for duals and meets, but eventually the University of Wyoming moved to hosting primarily at Laramie High School.

"... the [UW] program hosts home meets at Laramie High School instead of the smaller pool in the aging on-campus John Corbett Building." (University of Wyoming). While Corbett is still used for practices, duals and meets are rarely held there. The last official Swimming and Diving dual to be held at Corbett was the Brown and Gold Alumni meet on September 27th, 2025.
